Hello, it’s Kit here, welcome to the SaveEnergy Community.
This is our first newsletter for members, investors and supporters and I’m delighted to share our progress with you all.
But first, I hope you’ve enjoyed a lovely summer. We went to Cornwall for some very hilly walking, totally worth it for views like this one!
As we launch our Winter surveying season, we’re so thankful for the amazing support for our share offer. We smashed our minimum target of £50k, raising a whopping £85,000. If you invested, you’ll be receiving confirmation and your SEIS tax certificate by email shortly, along with some further good news about possible benefits for both income tax and capital gains tax rebates.
So what are we doing with the lovely working capital that the share offer raised?
Recruitment and training – 10 local people are currently training as Energy Advisors/Assessors and will be working or volunteering with us in the coming months
Product development – our range of services includes free Energy Advice and Energy Advice Plus (practical measures to improve home efficiency); our unique Triple A Home Energy Evaluation which includes a personalised action plan; and EPCs and Retrofit Assessments to help people make good energy choices (find out more on our website)
Marketing – we’ve recruited Maria as our marketing manager to help us reach more people, so watch out for SaveEnergy online, in print and at local events. This Saturday 13 September we’ll be at Marlow Carnival Green Village so come and say hello (and if you have an event that you think we’d like to attend, let Maria know – maria.evans@saveenergy.coop).
SaveEnergy is a community business, and it also seems to be a family one as Maria and I are married as well as working together – not in a ‘politician puts whole family on the payroll’ kind of way, more ‘great double-act’ (we’re aspiring to George and Amal Clooney but let’s be honest we’re more Homer and Marge Simpson). We also have another married couple, and a father and son team training as Domestic Energy Assessors, and we see the links between family and community as a great strength.
