As Autumn leaves start to turn, our thoughts turn to surveying homes. Our Triple A Home Energy Evaluation includes a thermal imaging survey of your home inside and out, showing heat lost; a Domestic Energy Assessment and Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) highlighting areas for improvement; a personalised Action Plan to help you enjoy a warmer home, lower bills and reduced carbon emissions; and expert energy advice tailored to your home and your lifestyle.

Autumn Energy Hacks
We can’t resist giving free energy advice – it’s part of our commitment to delivering community benefit, and it’s what we’ve trained for. So if you’ve already turned the heating on, or even if you’re planning to hold out for another few weeks, here are our top five Autumn Heating Hacks, which we hope you find useful.
- If you have a gas boiler, get it serviced before things start to get really chilly. It may seem unnecessary, but an annual check delivers peace of mind and more efficient operation; and check that your carbon monoxide alarm is working and positioned correctly – between 1 and 3 metres away from your boiler and at least 15 cm from the ceiling, away from windows and vents
- Set the flow rate on your boiler to 60 degrees – any hotter and you’re wasting money, any cooler and your heating will take longer to be effective
- Take a few minutes to check your heating controls and thermostats. We recommend keeping heating to 18-21 degrees while you’re home during the day, and around 15 degrees overnight
- Hopefully all your radiators have thermostatic radiator values (these are the ones with numbers on). They are easy for a plumber to install if you don’t have them already, and mean you can control temperature in individual rooms. Turn radiators to the ‘frost’ setting in rooms you don’t use. Condensation shouldn’t be a problem if you keep the door shut and open your window trickle vents
- Invest in thermal curtains or blinds, or fit loose thermal liners to your existing window coverings. Although double glazing is effective, the frames and lintels of windows can act as a thermal bridge, conducting heat out of your house as temperatures drop. It would be a shame to heat the garden!
